A Recent Supreme Court Verdict • The Supreme Court have directed all the States and Union Territories to implement the safety measures prescribed by the national Building Code of India, 2005 in all government and private schools. • “Children cannot be compelled to receive education in an unsound and unsafe building”. The court issued a comprehensive time-bound plan to ensure safety of children in schools • The teachers along with other staff shall be trained to handle safety equipment, initiate emergency evacuations and protect their students in the event of fire and other emergencies.
