  3. Colonization of the New World The French came as explorers In 1524 King Francis I was on the throne at the time Came seeking a route to the Pacific Ocean and wealth By 1750 New France had a population of 75,000 Britain's population in the new world was 1.5 million

  4. French and Indian War War between France and Britain in the New World Started because of disputes over territory  In 1763 New France was lost to Britain and Spain

  5. Canadian Confederation July 1, 1867 Federal Dominion of Canada formed British colonies:-Canada-New Brunswick-Nova Scotia Canada (the colony) was split into the Provinces of Quebec and Ontario

  7. Call them what you will French Canadian, Francophone Canadian, Canadien all mean pretty much the same thing. Most French Canadians Identify themselves as Canadien, French, Quebecois, or Acadian

  9. French Canada and God Until the 1960's religion was part of ones national identity as a Canadien the Quiet Revolution changed this, as it was a period of secularization  Took Health Care and Education out of the Roman Catholic Church's hands, and left it up to the provincial government
