  2. PEACE AT HOME BEGINS WITH A BIBLICAL UNDERSTANDING OF THE MARRIAGE • H. LEO BOLES- Marriage is an institution ordained by God (Gen. 2:24-25: Mt 19:4-6) for the honor and happiness of mankind, in which one man and one woman enter into a bodily and spiritual union, pledging each to the other mutual love, honor, fidelity, sympathy, and forbearance, such as would assure an unbroken continuance of their wedlock so long as both shall live.

  3. Ge 2:24 Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.

  4. MARRIAGE PROVIDES COMPAIONSHIP • Ge 2:18 ¶ And the LORD God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him.

  5. MARRIAGE PROCREATES • Ge 1:27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them. • 28 And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth. • 1Ti 5:14 I will therefore that the younger women marry, bear children, guide the house, give none occasion to the adversary to speak reproachfully.

MARRIAGE PREVENTS IMMORALITY • 2 Nevertheless, to avoid fornication, let every man have his own wife, and let every woman have her own husband. • 3 Let the husband render unto the wife due benevolence: and likewise also the wife unto the husband. • 4 The wife hath not power of her own body, but the husband: and likewise also the husband hath not power of his own body, but the wife. • 5 Defraud ye not one the other, except it be with consent for a time, that ye may give yourselves to fasting and prayer; and come together again, that Satan tempt you not for your incontinency.

  7. 1Co 6:9 ¶ Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind, • 1Co 6:18 Flee fornication. Every sin that a man doeth is without the body; but he that committeth fornication sinneth against his own body. • Ga 5:19 Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, • Heb 13:4 Marriage is honourable in all, and the bed undefiled: but whoremongers and adulterers God will judge.

  8. MARRIAGE IS PERMANENT • Mal 2:16 For the LORD, the God of Israel, saith that he hateth putting away: for one covereth violence with his garment, saith the LORD of hosts: therefore take heed to your spirit, that ye deal not treacherously.

MARRIAGE IS PERMANENT • 5 And said, For this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife: and they twain shall be one flesh? • 6 Wherefore they are no more twain, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder. • 7 They say unto him, Why did Moses then command to give a writing of divorcement, and to put her away? • 8 He saith unto them, Moses because of the hardness of your hearts suffered you to put away your wives: but from the beginning it was not so. • 9 And I say unto you, Whosoever shall put away his wife, except it be for fornication, and shall marry another, committeth adultery: and whoso marrieth her which is put away doth commit adultery.

  10. MARRIAGE IS PERMANENT • Ro 7:2 For the woman which hath an husband is bound by the law to her husband so long as he liveth; but if the husband be dead, she is loosed from the law of her husband. • 3 So then if, while her husband liveth, she be married to another man, she shall be called an adulteress: but if her husband be dead, she is free from that law; so that she is no adulteress, though she be married to another man.

  11. PEACE WILL GROW WHEN WE KNOW OUR RESPONSIBILITIES • Eph 5:23 For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body. • Ge 18:19 For I know him, that he will command his children and his household after him, and they shall keep the way of the LORD, to do justice and judgment; that the LORD may bring upon Abraham that which he hath spoken of him.

HONOR 1Pe 3:7 Likewise, ye husbands, dwell with them according to knowledge, giving honour unto the wife, as unto the weaker vessel, and as being heirs together of the grace of life; that your prayers be not hindered. • Pr 19:14 ¶ House and riches are the inheritance of fathers: and a prudent wife is from the LORD. • Pr 31:10 ¶ Who can find a virtuous woman? for her price is far above rubies.

  13. PROVIDE 1Ti 5:8 But if any provide not for his own, and specially for those of his own house, he hath denied the faith, and is worse than an infidel.

  14. WIFE MUST • HONOR- Eph 5:33 Nevertheless let every one of you in particular so love his wife even as himself; and the wife see that she reverence her husband. • Tit 2:4 That they may teach the young women to be sober, to love their husbands, to love their children, Tit 2:5 To be discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God be not blasphemed. • Ge 5:2 Male and female created he them; and blessed them, and called their name Adam, in the day when they were created.

  15. WE MUST • FORGIVING- EPH 4:32 • SELFLESS-PHIL 2:3-4 • HAPPY WITH EACH OTHER PROV 5:18 • FAITHFUL TO EACH OTHER 1 COR 7:2-3 • LOVE- EPH 5:25, 28-29

  16. PEACE WILL COME AS WE OVERCOME • Poor communication is the number one problem in 86% of all troubled marriages. Communication in marriages is a dialogue and not a monologue. • Pr 15:31 ¶ The ear that heareth the reproof of life abideth among the wise. • Pr 18:13 ¶ He that answereth a matter before he heareth it, it is folly and shame unto him. • Pr 15:28 ¶ The heart of the righteous studieth to answer: but the mouth of the wicked poureth out evil things.

  17. Religious division • Ge 24:3 And I will make thee swear by the LORD, the God of heaven, and the God of the earth, that thou shalt not take a wife unto my son of the daughters of the Canaanites, among whom I dwell: • 4 But thou shalt go unto my country, and to my kindred, and take a wife unto my son Isaac.

  18. Unresolved Conflict • Mt 5:25 Agree with thine adversary quickly, whiles thou art in the way with him; lest at any time the adversary deliver thee to the judge, and the judge deliver thee to the officer, and thou be cast into prison. • We not I I IIIIIIIIII Gen 2:4 • Speak the truth in love. MONEY, MONEY, MONEY, MONEY. • 2 OUT OF 5 CONFLICT IN THE HOME CENTER AROUND MONEY. • Pr 27:23 ¶ Be thou diligent to know the state of thy flocks, and look well to thy herds. • 24 For riches are not for ever: and doth the crown endure to every generation? • Pr 30:25 The ants are a people not strong, yet they prepare their meat in the summer;

Mt 6:19 ¶ Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: • Lu 12:15 And he said unto them, Take heed, and beware of covetousness: for a man's life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth. • Pr 11:28 ¶ He that trusteth in his riches shall fall: but the righteous shall flourish as a branch. • Pr 22:7 ¶ The rich ruleth over the poor, and the borrower is servant to the lender.
