  1. The city of Bialystok Bialystok, with a population of nearly 300 thousand, is the largest city in the north-eastern part of Poland and the capital of Podlasie Region. The location near borders with Belarus, Lithuania and Russia creates good conditions for the development of economic and cultural connections with Eastern European countries. Bialystok plays a role of administrative, economic, scientific and cultural centre of this part of the country (thanks to ecological assets, it is called “The Green Lungs of Poland”).

  4. Universitywith a mission The University of Bialystok was established in 1997 from the Branch of Warsaw University after nearly 30 years of its existence. Today it is one of the largest and strongest academic centers in North-Eastern Poland, considering the number of research workers, fields of study and forms of education offered. The University of Bialystok is located in a special region where environment is clean, the West meets the East and many cultures and nations coexist together.

In 2010 the Faculty received the ISO certificate 9001. In 2011 the Faculty was awarded by the Chamber of Commerce and Industry for cooperation with entrepreneurs in creating the new field of study: international economic relations. The Faculty coorganizes Academic Business Incubator and carries out EU projects.

Faculty of Philology http://hum.uwb.edu.pl Polish Philology, Philology (English, French, Belarusian, Russian), Library and Information Science, Cultural Studies The Faculty of Philology is renowned both in Poland and abroad for its extensive publishing activity. Among various research areas the important ones are the dialects of north-eastern Poland,living in the borderland of national cultures – the intersection of the West and the East.

  10. FACULTY OF HISTORY ANDSOCIOLOGY www.hist-soc.uwb.edu.pl History, Sociology, International Relations Sociology staff and students are one of the most active at our University. Their publications are regularly cited in media. This Faculty specializes in research on East Borderland of Poland and its scientific and cultural heritage. They publish a scientific periodicals: Borderland, Social Studies and Podlasie Studies. The Institute of Sociology founded the Bialystok Centre of Social Research and Initiatives.

Faculty of Law www.prawo.uwb.edu.pl Law, Administration, European Studies, National Security, Criminology The Faculty of Law was ranked number 1 in Poland in the national law school ranking provided by the legal section of Rzeczpospolita (nationwide newspaper) and was one of just two faculties in Poland to receive outstanding ratings from the State Accreditation Committee. The Faculty offers services of Students Legal Counselling which are provided for free to all residents of Bialystok.

Faculty of Economics and Informatics in Vilnius (LITHUANIA) www.wilno.uwb.edu.pl Economics, Informatics The University of Bialystok has been offering education for Poles from Lithuania and Belarus for many years. It is the first university in Poland to have opened a foreign branch – the Faculty of Economics and Informatics in Vilnius.

FACULTY OF BIOLOGY AND CHEMISTRY http://biol-chem.uwb.edu.pl Biology, Chemistry, Environmental Protection, Biology and Geography Chemistry at the Faculty of Biology and Chemistry was among the first courses in Poland to have received international accreditation. The Faculty administers Natural Science Centre. Since 2008 the university modern field station has been operating in the village Gugny on the Biebrza River.In 2011 was established the BioNanoTechno Centre for Synthesis and Analysis.

Faculty of Physics http://physics.uwb.edu.pl Physics The Faculty of Physics has recently introduced anew specialty of medical physics, which is prepared in association with Bialystok Oncological Centre. One of the Faculty’s priorities is cooperation with local businesses of advanced technologies.

Faculty ofMathematics and Informatics http://matinf.uwb.edu.pl Mathematics, Informatics, Informatics and Econometrics The publications of the University of Bialystok mathematicians and computer scientists appear in renowned international journals and are highly ranked. The Faculty cooperates with numerous overseas scientific institutions. The Faculty students may take part in the activities of the Scientific Group of Mathematics Students and the Scientific Group of Informatics Students.
