  5. Goals of ASEAN • To accelerate the economic growth, social progress and cultural development in the region through joint endeavors; and • To promote regional peace and stability through abiding respect for justice and the rule of law.

  7. Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia (1976) • Contains fundamentals principles on interstate relations. • Provides mechanisms for pacific settlement of disputes.

  8. Treaty on the Southeast Asia Nuclear Weapon-Free Zone15 December 1995 • An undertaking by ASEAN states not to develop, manufacture, acquire, possess, test or use nuclear weapons. • Negotiations for the accession of Nuclear Weapon States are underway.
