  2. What is the holiday? Christmas in Ukraine • In some areas was used the pre-Christian name of the holiday – Kolyada • Celebrates the birth of Jesus

  3. Who celebrates? • Christmas is the holiday when all members of the family gather together. • Children like to have fun on this holiday. • Everyone celebrates, even people who don’t go to church.

  4. When is it celebrated? • In the mid-4th century by the Roman Catholic church was celebrated on December 25. • In the 10th century with the introduction of the Christianity into Rus it celebrated on the eve of 7th of January.

  5. Where is it celebrated? • It also celebrates in Russia on the same date. • People celebrate it with their family, some people, most religious, go to church.

  6. Why is it celebrated? • Birth of Jesus • Celebration of the sun’s return • Commencement of the agricultural year.

  7. How is it celebrated? • The celebration lasts three days and involves Christmas liturgies and caroling. • Caroling is an important part of the holiday, it expresses respect for the master of the house and his kids. Children go from door to door, sing carols and people give them sweets. • The “Holy supper”(SviataVechera ) on Christmas eve is a meal of 12 ritual meatless and milk less dishes. • “Kutya” – is a traditional Ukrainian Christmas dish. • In my region kids prepare celebration supper, and take it to their godparents, and they prepare gifts for kids.

  8. Conclusion/ Summary • During this project I learned that some time ago it actually celebrated on December 25. • This holiday is important to me, because I like traditions of my culture, and I think it’s great holiday which includes fun and happiness. Marry Christmas!
