  3. THANK YOU!

  4. OUR MISSION • Southern Kentucky Soccer provides leadership and direction for the growth, development, education, participation, and success of recreational and competitive soccer programs in the Bowling Green/Warren County area. Our mission is to teach our youth through soccer, to work together as a team, to deal with challenges and to experience both success and failure, all of which build strong character and leadership skills as they grow into young adults. Our hope is that these youths are somehow connected to the game throughout their lives.

  5. POINTS OF EMPHASIS • Uniforms - All players are required to wear the Nike Uniform or the grey t shirts. Players not wearing the appropriate uniform will not be allowed to participate. • Roster enforcement- Only players on your league approved roster are allowed to participate in games. (insurance issues) Direct any roster questions to the office. • Sideline etiquette- No more than two coaches are allowed on the sideline (head coach, asst. coach). U7/U8 age groups should keep the team sideline on the opposite side of the field from the parents. • Respect the Referee- We have been working to try and stop the trend of losing referees. You as the coaches play the biggest role in this. If you are respectful and calm then the games tend to have a better feel for them. Dissent to any official will not be tolerated. • Typical training session- basic setup: 1/4warm up ¼ activities, ½ scrimmage. Make as fun as possible. • Communication- For our league to be successful we must have good communication on all parts. Please make sure that you contact players, and pass along any information as soon as possible.

  6. SAFETY 1STWEATHER POLICY • Practice – It will be up to the coach to decide and notify his/her team that practice will be cancelled due to weather. Unless all activities are canceled by the league, then we will notify you.  • Games – If weather conditions are such that we would cancel games • Southern Kentucky Soccer will do 3 things to notify you: • A league wide e-mail would be sent to everyone. • A message would be put on our home webpage. • A message would be put on the office answering machine. • This season, we will be using the back of the complex as our rain plan…….meaning that we will only cancel games when lightning occurs, or when conditions are such that injuries are likely to occur. In the event this happens, a league wide email and email to coaches will be sent with schedules detailing new field assignments.

  7. PRACTICE FREQUENCIES • U5/G5 - 1 time per week – 30 to 45 minutes • U6/G6 - 1 time per week – 30 to 45 minutes • U7/G7 - 1 time per week – 45 to 60 minutes • U8/G8 - 1 time per week – 45 to 60 minutes • U10/G10 – 1-2 times per week – 1 to 1.25 hours • U12/G12 – 1-2 times per week – 1.25-1.5 hours • U14/G15 – 1-2 times per week – 1.25-1.5 hours • U18 - 1-2 times per week – 1.25-1.5 hours

  8. GAME CANCELLATIONS • Every attempt should be made to complete every game as scheduled. If a conflict does arise please contact the office at 846-1010 or at office@skysoccer.org by Monday before your scheduled game. The office will notify you if your game can be made up on a league approved make up date.

  9. UNIFORMS • All recreational teams registered through Southern Kentucky Soccer are required to wear the NIKE jersey or the GREY T-shirt with SKY Soccer logos and sponsor on the front. This season the players will no longer be able to wear the SKY Blue Adidas jersey. Teams/players that are in violation of this uniform policy will not be allowed to play. Teams that are from surrounding areas (i.e. Glasgow/Franklin) that participate in a full recreational season (5 or more games) will be required to wear the “SKY” uniform. Teams that are from surrounding areas ( i.e. Glasgow/Franklin ) that participate in 4 or fewer games and are not registered through Southern Kentucky Soccer are not contractually liable under our current uniform contract and may have alternate uniforms. • All uniforms will be available for purchase and pickup at the SKY office during regular office hours. The cost of uniform is $32 for youth sizes and $34 for adult sizes.

  10. PARTIES/TROPHIES:It is up to each team to obtain its own end of the year awards and to schedule their own party. • LOCAL TROPHY PROVIDERS – Riherds (riherds.com), Thompson’s Trophy Center • PLACES TO HOLD A SEASON ENDING PARTY – Chuck E Cheese, Gattiland, CiCi’s, Mancino’s • PICTURES: Dates TBA. The coach or a team representative will need to pick up the team pictures and distribute them to the team. No individual pictures will be given out. • PRACTICE AREAS: A practice area sign-up sheet is available so that you may have a designated practice area on designated days for the fields in the back of Lovers Lane. Once assigned a space do not move to another space because it has goals, someone else is most likely already assigned to it. Space is limited and teams that sign up will have priority over those that do not. Sign-ups are first come first serve. There are many parks and schools throughout the area that are suitable to have practices at and we encourage teams to seek them out and use them. We do not have scheduling authority in these other areas, check with the school or the Parks and Rec department for their particular policies regarding usage and scheduling. • PINNIES/CONES: Available in the office during regular office hours.

  11. RECREATIONAL TOURNAMENT • U8-U18 • Round robin format • Seeded by blind draw • U14 and G14?

  12. Why kids play…….. • Competence (learning and improving)   • Affiliation (Being a part of something like a team or a club)   • Fitness (agility, balance, coordination, and physical health)   • Fun (This is the overwhelming reason why children play sports)   • Notice that "winning" is not one of the reasons. Vince Ganzberg

  13. Why they stop playing……. • Lack of Playing Time   • Overemphasis on Winning • Other Activities are more interesting   • Lack of Fun • Coaching/Adult Behaviors • Dissatisfaction with Performance • Lack of Social Support Vince Ganzberg

  14. WHAT SHOULD YOU BE TEACHING U5-U8 PLAYERS? • Dribbling • To beat an opponent • Speed • Possession • Positive 1st Touch

  15. WHAT SHOULD YOU BE TEACHING U10-U18 PLAYERS? • Dribbling • 1v1 Defending • Positive 1st Touch • Passing/Receiving • 1st Attacker/Defender • 2nd Attacker/Defender • 3rd Attacker/Defender
