  2. What do statistics tell us? • 70% of schools are currently good or better • 30% require improvement/inadequate • More schools are being judged as RI/IA • Those being judged to be in an outstanding category have fallen

  3. Other perspectives on statistics.. Schools with least deprived pupils have twice the chance of being graded outstanding Schools with least deprived children have 83% chance of good or better as oppose to 56% for those with deprived children Schools with deprived pupils are six times more likely to be given a grade of inadequate

  4. Sir Michael Wilshaw says… ‘Getting to good requires leadership focused on teaching and learning’ ‘Lessons are too formulaic with not enough thought being given to what really works for young people-lessons where pupils are not fully engaged or stretched to reach full potential’ Ofsted Annual Report Nov 2012

  5. Ofsted Annual Report Key Outcomes… • Lead teaching and learning and spread best practice • Challenge underperformance of pupils and staff • Grow your own leaders • Promote professional development Ofsted Annual Report Nov 2012

What has changed since the last framework? • Four key judgements • No separate judgement for EYFS • Priority on reading/literacy • Focus on teaching and learning • No SEF requirement • Notice time period • Report format • Role of Governors • Curriculum is under leadership • Performance Management • Outstanding teaching pre requisite for overall outstanding judgement

  7. What does at least good look like?Achievement • The proportions of pupils making and exceeding expected progress compare favourably with national figures or it is improving over a sustained period • Progress in year groups is consistently strong and work outcomes evidence this • Pupils read widely and often • Where attainment in reading is low overall it is improving at a faster rate than nationally • Pupils make good or better progress in a wide range of subjects, particularly core subjects • The progress of SEND and pupil premium pupils is good

  8. Tips on presenting achievement • Show progress for each class/cohort over past three years (APS) in English and Maths • Show attainment against national average over past three years in English and Maths • Show VA for each core area from KS1-KS2 for past three years • Show progress and attainment of all vulnerable groups, particularly SEND over past three years • Use the National Transition Matrices to judge progress against national • Be clever-calculate the % of pupils exceeding expected levels.

What does at least good look like?Quality of Teaching • Majority of lessons are at least good over time • Pupils make good progress and achieve well over time • Teachers have high expectations • Teachers listen to and skilfully question pupils • A positive climate for learning where pupils are interested and engaged • Assessment of learning is regular and accurate-pupils know how well they are doing and how to improve • Teaching strategies are well matched to all pupils needs
