Education • The amount of education that someone can expect to get depends on what type of nurse they are wanting to be. • ER nurses can expect to have to go to school for about 8 years. • A RN can go through their nursing class in a matter of 9 week
Education • Most nurses must go to college four at least 4 years and gain a degree in nursing. • To get a degree in nursing it would take an average of 2 years to complete the base classes need. • After completion of base classes it is then necessary to apply to the college of nursing.
College of Nursing • UNC, ECU, and UNCW are some of the top colleges for nursing major. • The average GPA for a student to make it into the college of nursing is 3.8. • After the completion of the college of nursing the choice from there is whether to specialize in a certain field or not.
Demand for Nurses • During the time of recession nursing is one of the few fields that did not see lay offs and were in a high demand. • The amount of American work force went from 3% to 11% in the area of nursing from 1990 to 2009. • And the demand continues to rise.
Demand for Nurses • Dr. Sylvia Brown(Dean at the college of nursing for ECU) says “There will always be sick people and where there are people who are sick there will be a need for nurses” • This is saying that it will never be difficult for nurse to find work.
Amount Paid • The amount a nurse makes depends on what type of nurse they are, where they work, and how long they have worked. • On average a nurses make between $35,000 to $40,000 • Those who go through 8 years of school will around $100,000 and up
Amount Paid • The area of the U.S. that is now in the highest demand and willing to pay the most is New York. • The area of nursing that has the highest pay is a nurse anesthesia. They have to go to school for the longest amount of time and always make in the 6 digit salary range.
