Nursing BSN Completion: Working professional nurses ADN or Diploma graduates 128 hours to graduate ~ 70 credits from ADN ~ additional 24 cr for 4 year college work
BSN Completion • 5 semesters • Fall, spring, summer, fall, spring • (1) 16 week class + (2) 8 week classes • So actually taking 2 classes at a time • Can stay with your cohort • Classes capped at 20 students • $340 / credit hour
Graduate Programs • 37 – 40 credit hours needed • 8 week classes totally online • $420 credit hour • Core: • Research, Ethics, Role, Policy, Health Promotion • 3 P’s (physical assessment, pharm, patho) • Specialization • Practicum: Health Assessment (10 hours) • 60 hours + 90 hours in specialization
Capstone • All graduate degrees: • NSG-613 Scholarly Project • In area of specialization • Publication quality • Can be a project to improve your workplace
Palliative Care Nursing • Core + • Philosophy and Theory of Palliative Care • Advanced Clinical Patho • Clinical Pharmacology • Practicum across settings with NP • Acute, LTC, Hospice, Inpatient
Role in Palliative Care • Clinical – Interdisciplinary Team Role • Facilitate family meetings • Goals of care discussions • Advance care planning discussions pt / families • Patient/Family advocate • Problem solve symptom management • Transition settings
Palliative Care can be Anywhere • Not restricted to terminal diagnosis • It IS for SERIOUS ILLNESS • Person can continue to seek cure but needs symptom management
