  2. What is positive space? • Positive space is the area of an artwork that IS the primary subject or object. • It occupies the space.

  3. What is negative space? • Negative space in sculpture and art is the space around, above and in-between the object.

  5. Our project is based on positive and negative space in a sculpture. • We will build a sculpture and form it into an abstract form. • This project has everything to do with working with your hands and shaping wire. • Once we have put together our sculptures, they will look something like this…

  13. What does Abstract mean?

  14. Abstract • Art which includes painting, sculpture, and graphic art, that does not represent recognizable objects. • You have to use your imagination to figure it out. • A piece of abstract art can bring out different responses from viewers. • YOU HAVE TO USE YOUR IMAGINATION.

  15. How do you plan for an abstract piece of artwork? • First you have to think about your materials. • In this case, it is Wood, Hangers, Glue, Gesso, and Paint. • Next draw some things you might want your piece to represent. I have taught students who have made animals, plants, faces, trees, hands, birds, academy awards, etc….. • Your imagination goes wild on this project.
