Geometric shapes • Has measureable lines and angles or shapes from geometry • Shapes with names - Triangles, square, rectangles • Organic shapes • Any shape or form that is irregular • Found in nature
Requirements • Subject matter = animal • Size = larger than your hand • Must use wire for the body structure • Include found or recycled objects – sticks, beads, plastic bags, etc. • Must have fibers – yarn, string, colored floss, etc. • Must use only cold connections – sewing, tying, loops, etc. • Can hang, stand, lie flat
What are we doing? • Draw ideas in sketchbook – outline sketch & sketch showing 3-dimensional parts • Animal • Size = larger than your hand • Discuss your plans with a teacher • Use wire to create your sculpture
How to use Wire • 1) cut wire • Size = arm’s length • 2) Make a loop on the ends • 3) use padding to make the wire bigger • Trash bags, fabric, etc.
How to Use Fiber • cut fiber • Size = 2 arms length • Wrap yarn • tuck end facing left • Wrap over end & upwards like you are hitting your chin • End with a knot or using a needle • Options • Change colors • Add objects (beads, etc.) • Expose padding if you want
Day 2 • Demo – how to use wire and fibers • Goal = • Bring plastic bags & objects to use if you haven’t yet
Day 4 • Goal = • Draw a sketch in your sketchbook of your design • 1 sketch = an outline of the animal • 1 sketch = plan where you will put the wire – think 3-dimensionally • Draw in the colors you want to use • show a teacher • Start wrapping your first wire • Due –Friday, April 27
Day 5 • Due - sketches • Goal = • Work on your sculpture • Have 2 lengths of wire done • Due – Friday, April 27
Day 7 • Tell me where you planted your postcard • Fill out a survey sheet • Goal = • Work on your yarn & wire sculpture
