School of Building Engineering Services • The NPTC Group School of Building Engineering Services offers full-time and part-time courses plus commercial programmes designed to meet the needs of this highly innovative and fast-moving sector • Our programmes cover Electrical and Mechanical Services, Gas Technology, Energy Efficiency and Advice, Renewable Technologies and Environmental Control in Buildings • New to our portfolio is Mechanical Fire Services

  10. In partnership with BAFSA Council has previously expressed concerns regarding the relatively unstructured and somewhat casual approach to training in the fire industry. It has tried to support moves to develop vocational qualifications and invested not a little time in supporting moves by various organisations including the Mechanical Fire Protection Group set up by a skills standards organisations BAFSA - 2012 Annual General Meeting

National Occupational Standards • National Occupational Standards (NOS) are a set of benchmark standards designed by Standard Setting Organisations in partnership with professionals within an industry • They provide the basis for knowledge and practical competences by which the industry wants its workforce to operate

The Welsh Sprinkler Measure • Assembly Member Ann Jones introduced a private members bill that will ensure all new and renovated domestic properties will have fire suppression systems installed • BAFSA made initial contact with NPTC Group after being directed by the Welsh Government – Housing and Regeneration Department(Built Environment section) • NPTC Group invited to join BAFSA Skills and Development Committee

Qualifications for Industry • Agreement NPTC Group would develop a course that would be the foundation to build on • An Award would be designed to up-skill existing plumbers and heat and ventilation engineers • Award would be open to existing sprinkler installers workforce – but not mandatory

  14. Qualification for Up Skilling Installers • Designed for up-skilling existing L3 mechanical services workforce • Course over 3 Days + 1 day for assessments • Covers domestic installation skills and competencies • Practical assessments • Summative knowledge assessment • Portfolio to evidence achievement

Qualification for Up Skilling Installers • The Award would cover • Industry Regulations and recognised Codes of Practice • Health and Safety relating to sprinkler installations • Understanding of System Design • Basic principals of Domestic Installations • Commissioning Testing and Handover • Maintenance

Future Developments • Award is currently bespoke and needs to be accredited on the Qualification Framework • Current workforce requires Certificate and/or Diploma combined with recognition of existing experience and competence • Leading to industry apprenticeships for industrial, commercial as well as residential and domestic
