The Law of Christ His love is Unconditional R elational / New Covenant

This discourse explores the concept of mercy and equal honor in the context of the New Covenant. James emphasizes that God's love shows no partiality and calls believers to love their neighbors as themselves. The law of Christ, based on Jesus' example, demands unconditional love and is fulfilled by bearing one another's burdens. The judgment of Jesus and the devil are also discussed, highlighting the importance of love and faith.

  1. “Mercy is love practiced without respect of a person’s performance, which is the outworking of Grace, revealing the fruit of faith in Gods Love.” dwj

  2. Context: In the gathering of the local assembly "synagogue" where local decisions were made, the least of the social-economic strata were seated in respected order. The rich sat up front and the poor in the back. James is resisting this old culture with a new culture of honor. James comments in this discourse, ''Show me your faith and I’ll show you my works for just as the body without the spirit is dead, so also faith without works is dead.'' This has often been misunderstood that James is teaching a gospel of works. In truth, his main message is to rebuke those rich who say they are followers of Jesus but are still not operating in the New Covenant culture. Simply stated, all believers regardless of their position in life, are of equal value and deserve equal honor. In essence, James is teaching a foundational message. God’s love is respecter of no persons and nor should we as disciples of Jesus.

  3. James 2 (8-13)  If, however, you are fulfilling the royal lawaccording to the Scripture, “YOU SHALL LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOURSELF,” you are doing well. 9 But if you show partiality, you are committing sin and are convicted bythe law astransgressors.10For whoever keeps the whole law and yet stumbles in one point, he has become guilty of all. 11 For He who said, “DO NOT COMMIT ADULTERY,” also said, “DO NOT COMMIT MURDER.” Now if you do not commit adultery, but do commit murder, you have become a transgressor of the law.12 So speak and so act as those who are to be judged by thelaw of liberty.13 For judgment will be merciless to one who has shown no mercy; mercy triumphs over judgment.

  4. The Law of Christ His love is Unconditional Relational / New Covenant The law of Christ can be defined as those prescriptive principles drawn from the example and teaching of Jesus and his apostles, the central demand being love, which are to be worked out through the guiding influence of the Holy Spirit through, the Empowerment of His Grace. John 15(12-14)“This is My commandment, that you love one another, just as I have loved you. 13Greater love has no one than this, which one lay down his life for his friends. 14 You are My friends if you do what I command you.

  5. Message of the Apostle Paul Romans 13(8& 10) owe nothing to anyone except to love one another; for he who loves his neighbor has fulfilled the law. 10 Love does no wrong to a neighbor; therefore love is the fulfillment of the law. Gal 6(2). Bear one another’s burdens, and thereby fulfill the law of Christ. Gal 5 (6 & 13-14)For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor un-circumcision means anything, but faith working through love. 13 for you were called to freedom, brethren; only do not turn your freedom into an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another. 14 For the whole Law is fulfilled in one word, in the statement, “YOU SHALL LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOURSELF.
