  2. Ruth was very pessimistic; she was sure she had failed her science test. Ronnie’s pessimistic outlook on life makes him believe the world will end soon. Feeling gloomy and hopeless; thinking the worst. pessimistic

  3. Optimistic that she had made the volleyball team, Julie went out and bought new knee pads. Since she always got money for his birthday, Sally was optimistic she would soon be able to buy those shoes she wanted. Hopeful; looking on the bright side. optimistic

  4. Due to budget cuts the cafeteria recently started serving meager portions of food. As I examined my piggy bank, I was discouraged to see my meager savings. To stare stupidly. meager
