  4. Class Rules • Please do not use your smart phone in class. It is OK to use it when: Professor gives assignment where you and group members must look up information To use the dictionary During the break

  5. Participation Points! You must earn 25 points to get a good grade in this class! How to earn points: Come to class and do work = 1 Raise hand and answer question = 1 Semester Project = 10 How to lose points: Speaking when professor is speaking Using your phone to send text messages in class.

Semester Goals(Pre Mid-term Exam) Week 5 – Reviewing Chapter 1 and Starting Chapter 4 – “The best place in the world.” - Reviewing comparisons from Blue book’s Chapter 7 - Learning and being able to talk about superlatives and starting to use those superlatives in conversations. Week 6 – Continue and finish Chapter 4 - Making conversations with superlatives (sketch practice) - Start preparing for Mid-term Exam

  7. Semester Goals (Pre Mid-term Exam) Week 7 – Mid-term Exam Review - Have discussions using what you learned in chapters 1 and 4 - Reviewing everything as a class by playing a game. Week 8 – Mid-term Exam Chapters 1 and 4 - Part 1 = Writing - Part 2 = Speaking

  10. Vacation Plans (Agreeing - Positive) A: What are you doing this summer? “doing” – is used when you want to know a person’s action. Here is the action – “going” B: I’m going on vacation. A: So am I!(Me, too!) Both people’s answers are positive = agree

  11. Vacation Plans (Agreeing - Negative) A: What are you doing this summer? B: I’m not going on vacation. When two people both use negative answers about one topic = agree A: Neither am I.

  45. Colons and commas! Q: Which city is the most beautiful: Seoul, Busan, or Gwangju? Use a colon when asking for the superlative of things (Which) Use a comma when comparing. A: I thinkGwangju is the most beautiful city! A: Which is larger, a guitar or violin? Q: A guitar is larger than a violin.

  46. Free Talk! • Ask your group members and discuss: 1. Which is the most beautiful city in Korea? (give choices! - opinion) 2. Which is the most delicious dessert you have ever eaten? 3. What is the best Korean dish? (opinion!) • Look up three countries on your smart phone and find out which is the largest city in each one and which one is the most beautiful (your opinion!)

  47. Semester Project You and your group will write a role-play (dialogue) You will choose chapters 1, 2, 4, 5, or 6 to write your dialogue with (Choose only one to three chapters!) Use the words and expressions in those chapters to write your dialogue with.

  48. Semester Project The dialogue must be 8 – 10 lines long. A rough draft of your dialogue is due by week 11! (3 participation points!!) If you want to use the words and expressions in chapters we have not learned yet, it is OK!
