From The Director’s Desk We write on behalf of the Education Task Force of the Consortium for Citizens with Disabilities to express our opposition to provisions of S.1571 that would amend the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) to allow states to remove any number of students with disabilities from the general accountability system.

From The Director’s Desk Congress has passed the Combating Autism Act and sent it to the president for his signature • This bill amends the Public Health   Service Act to extend and reauthorize appropriations through FY 2014 for programs including: • Developmental disabilities surveillance and research program; • Autism education, early detection, and intervention program; and • the Interagency Autism Coordinating Committee
