  16. 2006…. LHC (20.4 second super-cycle) With LHC filling PS PSB SPS (4) 12.0 -14.4 s 6-8 cycles EAST (3) 7.2 s 3 cycles TOF (2 - 3) 2.4 - 3.6 s 2 - 3 cycles AD (1) 1.2 s 0.5 cycles MD(PS) (1) 2.4 s 1 cycle MD (PSB) (1) - 1 cycle TOTAL 22.8 - 26.4s 13.5 -16.5 cycles Not possible!!!!

  17. During LHC fill…. PS PSB SPS (4) 10.8 -14.4 s 6-8 cycles EAST (2) 4.8 s 2 cycles TOF (2) 2.4 s 2 cycles AD (1) 1.2 s 0.5 cycles No MD…. TOTAL 18.0 - 20.4 10.5 - 12.5 cycles PS - reduce EAST & TOF by 30% + No MD PSB - 6.5 (4.5) / 17 for ISOLDE

  18. ISOLDE has “lost” SPP, SPN cycles to TOF Conclusions: SPS FT cycle 2001-2007 SPS FT protons OK for PS Bad for ISOLDE 3.5 - 4.5 (5.5 - 6.5)/14 cycles SPS ion OK for PS (TOF & EAST slight reduction) Even worse for ISOLDE 3.5 - 4.5 (5.5 - 6.5)/16 cycles Need to run PSB in dedicated mode for ISOLDE at least 4 weeks

  19. SPS protons + LHC sector test OK for PS: but reduction (30%) for EAST Hall Bad for ISOLDE 3.5 - 4.5 (5.5 - 6.5)/14 cycles Conclusions: 2004 include LHC sector test etc

  20. Conclusions: SPS for CNGS 2005... SPS CNGS OK for PS but again reduction (30%) for EAST Hall or TOF Bad for ISOLDE 3.5 - 4.5 (5.5 - 6.5)/14 cycles

  21. Conclusions: LHC filling2006…. Neither PS nor PSB can supply enough beam Reduce EAST & TOF by 30% + NO MD time PS OK…. PSB still cannot supply ISOLDE

  22. Conclusions • PS is tight but OK until 2004 • 2004... 30% reduction in EAST or TOF • 2006… during LHC filling - 30% reduction in EAST & TOF + No MD time • PSB cannot supply enough beam to ISOLDE: “lost” SPP, SPN cycles to TOF even in 2001!!! • Optimise ISOLDE, EAST, TOF schedules • 4 - 6 week dedicated ISOLDE runs in 2001-2003 will help • For LHC we need something more… • Multiple use of PSB rings • 600 msec PSB cycle
