According to the Consumer Protection Act 2019, Consumers are protected by the Consumer Bill of Rights. The bill states that consumers have the right to be informed, the right to choose, the right to safety, the right to be heard, the right to have problems corrected, the right to consumer education, and the right to service.

The Consumer Protection Act was Made to provide a simpler and quicker redressal to consumer grievances. The Act seeks to promote and protect the interest of consumers against deficiencies and defects in goods or services in the market, mall, bazaar, shop etc. It also seeks to secure the rights of a consumer against unfair trade practices, which may be practiced by manufacturers and traders. It helped educate customers on the rights and responsibilities of being a customer and how he/she seeks redressal in case of exploitation. That's why the government had made MRP in every material, which means Maximum retail price. The shopkeeper or the owner can not take more than MRP, if he does that he can be punished or charged a penalty.
The Consumer Protection Act, 2019 came into practice On 30th July 2019, Consumer Protection Bill, 2019 was passed by the LokSabha and then on 6th August 2019, RajyaSabha passed the bill. Finally, on 9th August 2019, The Consumer Protection Act, 2019 (New Act) received the assent of the President of India and was published in the official gazette, amending a more than three decade old act.
