  2. How much paint does it take to paint your bedroom?

  3. Are there any windows? What measurements do you need? What information do you need to answer this question? Are you painting the ceiling? What are the best units I should be using? What area will a tin of paint cover? What about the door? What shapes do you have to find the area of? What are the rules for finding these areas? What about the units for area? Can you think of anything else you might need? Are you using one colour? How much paint is in a tin?

  4. You are to present your findings to your class. • You will have to find information about tins of paint. • You can use any resources you want for your work. You might even want to use ICT. It’s up to you.

  5. You must include the following : • A sketch of your room showing the different walls. Your sketch does not have to be to scale. • The measurements of each wall. • The area of each wall. • The total surface area of your room. • The size of tin you are using and how much area it will cover. • How much is the paint?

  6. You can add any other information you find relevant. Extend this problem to other rooms with more complicated walls, ie kitchens, understair cupboards, sheds? Praise points will be awarded to the best ones from each class.
