  2. THE KANAL PRIMARY SCHOOL The school with about 30 teachers educates a bitless than 300 pupils. The school logo There is a kindergarten attached to it, meant for the children aged 1 to 5. 2

OUR PARTNERS - FIRST YEAR ACTIVITIES • COORDINATOR - Collège Léonard de Vinci –General secondary school -Saint-Aubin de médoc, France - in the field of energy saving. • Instituto Comprensivo Sonnino - Roccasecca dei Volsci -General secondary school - Sonnino, Italy - in the field of the recycling of the garbage. • Instituto generalife - General secondary school - Granada, Spain - planning matters. 3

THE CONCRETE OBJECTIVES OF THE PARTNERSHIP CONSISTS IN: Offering to the pupils the opportunity to discover the geographical and cultural realities of several countries of Europe including their own country by establishing thecurrent ecological situation. Increasing the knowledge of our own environment and its specific ecological problems. Promote a new ecological and sustainable way of thinking which will even affect life outside the school. Use of foreign languages to elaborate some of the materials intended in the project. It will be as well about surveys, research works, solo or in group, made on the Internet or on the occasion of educational exits. The project will also require exchangesof e-mail between pupils. Finally, the productions will take the shape of documents of PowerPoint type, photos or films. 4

  5. OUR FIRST YEAR PROJECT - WHY WATER AND WATER RESOURSES? There is serious water deprivation in our community in the dry periods of the year. The city council regulates the usage of water by: shutting down the waterworks forbidding the water usage of car washing and garden watering The water in the area is not potable from time to time. On those occasions the local inhabitants are given instructions to boil water before drinking it. That happens because of sever rainfall, but also because of lack of water. Water is distributed to the locals by the fire department wherever: the water supply is not steady an the areas where there are no waterworks yet.

  6. WE ASKED OURSELVES THE FOLLOWING QUESTIONS: Is the shutting down of the water justified? Regarding the reasons for shutting: • Are there not enough water sources? • Are the waterworks damaged? • Are we not being careful with the water sources the waterworks? • Are we using water irrationally? • Is our water clean? 6

THE PLAN OF THE PROJECT • Making a list, supported by photographs of the water • resources • Collecting the photos of the wells, springs, mangers • Studying the shapes and functions of wells • Collecting the anecdotes and stories about the water • sources • A questionnaire, an inquiry, an interview about the • kinds and problems of providing potable water: • private sources (wells, smaller gatherings), • waterworks • maintenance, • putting in the water counters, • rational usage of water, • chemical analysis of water 7

To draw a map of the water resources in the • community. • To make the tourist information sheets of the most • attractive sights in the community. • To make the jumbo posters with the photos of the • water resources. • To draw drawings, paint paintings, make models of • the wells and mangers. • To use water as motive of literary expression. 8

  9. OUR WORK FOR PROJECT • Pupils from 1st to 9th grade took part in the activities,participating in the workshops carried out in the next schoolsubjects: • Slovene • English • Geography • Maths • TechnicalEducation • Chemistry • Tourism Education • Computer Science 9

OUR PRODUKTS • Presentation of Slovenia, • a map of the water resources in the community, • drawings, paint paintings, models ofthe wells and mangers – The opening of the exhibition, • poems and stories about water - Water resources around the Kanal - posters(ENG) , • Map - Neptune's path, • Neptune's path - Along the left bank of river Soča, • Neptune's path - Along the right bank of river Soča, • water resources around the Kanal - Water resources around the Kanal - posters(ENG) , 10

  11. THE FINDINGS • There is a lot of clean water in the area – • consequently, we do not appreciate it and use it • rrationally. • There are several small gatherers that are not • connected among each other. • The water counters are not put in at all users' • The water price is low. 11

  12. IDEAS FOR BETTER WATER PROVISION • To renew the waterworks system as a whole. • To encourage the rational use of water. • To exploit a greater number of water resources. 12

  13. WHAT WOULD WE LIKE TO IMPROVE IN THE COMING YEAR? • Current documentation of the activities – photographs. • Planning the goals, activities already at the beginning of the school year (along with the time). • The activities must be carried out by the end of Februray. 13

DURING THE SECOND YEAR • The pupils will have to answer the productions of the partners. • Our project: Education for responsible deal with garbage. • Do we separate garbage? • What kind of garbage causes us problems as to where to put it (an oil bottle, a pen, etc.) • To become active in the current activities of nature cleaning in the surrounding • Let's clean Slovenia • European Week of garbage reduction • A visit to a company that collects garbage in our community • Comparing our findings with the findings of the pupils from Italy and Spain. • Collaborating on a project made in PowerPoint - CD. 14
