  1. How to Fetch Chart of Accounts in Xero

  2. With Xero, while setting up the organization after accepting the invitations, the user can import their own chart of accounts before beginning with recording the transactions. It is basically another way of Xero's default chart of accounts set up for new organization. You may want to utilize a chart of accounts that has been exported from other Xero organization or the one you created from Xero's template. Before importing your chart, it is recommended to have your previous list either saved in Excel or in .CSV, making it easy for you to copy and paste the details to the template.

  3. Now follow the steps for importing your accounts chart: Go to chart of accounts: Select General Settings under Settings menu. For Importing screen: For this step, choose Import button from the menu. Now, Download Import Template: From the screen, select the blue ink available on the right side of the screen beneath Example File. It will let you download the template required for preparing the import.

  4. Fill Chart of Accounts details in the Template: An Excel is quite same to the one that is downloaded on your system. Save the format on your computer system. Overall there are 9 columns in the template. But you are only required to fill the first four columns which are mandatory. They are: Code, Name, Type, Tax Code, Description, Dashboard, Expense Claims, Enable Payments and Balance.

  5. You cannot import foreign currency accounts. Rather you will have to remove all the foreign currency depository from your sheet. First you have to turn on the multiple currency features and then in chart of accounts start adding foreign currency depository separately for assigning correct currency.
