  26. Sharon and Mark’s Journeyregarding “money matters” • We started a new business. • I prayed much: • Joel 2:25 “That God would restore the years the swarming locusts have eaten”. • I learned: • Isaiah 45:7 “I formed the Light, I create the darkness. I bring prosperity and I create disaster. I the Lord to all these things”.

  27. Tithing • Tithing is the launching pad for your giving. • It is what sets you free from the love of money, and the fear of need. • It opens the doors for God’s many blessings. • 2 Cor 9:6 He who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and he who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully.

  28. Tithing • If you can’t live off 90% of your income, then you’re probably struggling to live off 100% anyway, and that means you have bigger financial problems you need to address. It shouldn’t require a miracle for you to get through the month with 10% less in your wallet. (Dave Ramsey)

  29. Wrap-Up • Fundamentally, stewardship begins with giving 100% of who I am to God. • The truth is: Giving is a heart issue, not a money issue. • NOT the Prosperity Gospel

  30. Wrap-Up • As the old saying goes: We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give. • “Giving is one of the most fail-proof litmus tests of your relationship to God.” Steven Cole

  31. Wrap-Up • “Tithing is a yardstick by which we can measure ourselves” J Vernon McGee • It ALL belongs to God. (Duet 10:14) • Are we going to live under fear – or with trust/generosity?

  32. Table Talk • As Christians what are some of the key points to keep in mind when giving? • As a couple – what ways do each of you help the other as you plan your financial giving? • What are some of the great stories that came out of some of the giving you have done?
