Ukrainian artist Anna Chernenko, an architect by profession, paints angels. She works in the technique of illustrative graphics. Touching, funny, naive, similar to pictures from children's books. And at her personal exhibitions there are always a lot of adults. The first personal exhibition “Kolomensk Motifs” took place in Dnepropetrovsk in 1992. Author of the exhibitions “Wings” (2009), “Rozhdestvenskaya” (January 2010), “About Angels with a Smile...” (February and July 2010), “Put your palms up, I’ll give you sunshine...” (January 2011), “Travel to Country A...” (January 2012), “Oh! Whirling…” (January 2013).
“Shchedryk” was arranged by Ukrainian composer Mykola Leontovych at the beginning of the 20th century. The song is based on the traditional Ukrainian folk chant welcoming the New Year (“shchedrivka”). In 1921, the Ukrainian National Chorus sung the song in the United States to a sold-out audience at Carnegie Hall. Later, Peter J. Wilhousky rearranged the melody for orchestra and wrote the new lyrics in English thus creating “Carol of the Bells”. The original “Shchedryk” by Leontovych was intended to be sung a cappella by mixed four-voice choir.
