  6. Line, Shape and Space Line- a long or short, narrow mark or band. Shape- form or outline. Space- the area between or around things. Elements of art are the basic properties of a work of art that may be perceived through the senses.

  7. Scratchboards

  8. 1. Forks can give you nice, evenly spaced lines all over the place. 2. Use a spoon tip to sort of gouge little bits out of the paint. 3. Is that a regular old pencil? Yep, just draw on the paint to scratch it. 4. The short edge of a metal ruler makes some cool tribal-looking marks if you gently wedge it into the paper. 5. Corn holders have fine points for fine lines. 6. It’s the spoon again- use the edge of the spoon for fatter lines.

Wildlife Scratchboard Art • Create scratchboard art of one animal and one element of its habitat Use wildlife books provided for reference and inspiration. • Use line, shape and space in your artwork • Use at least two tools AND two techniques • Two separate tools ex. Fork and spoon • AND Use one tool in two ways ex. Use the edge of the spoon and the side of the spoon to make two different types of lines • Mount your scratchboard on poster board. • Be sure to wipe any excess glue off of poster board • Around the edge (on poster board): • Your name • Name of animal • Name of habitat • One sentence or fact about this animal/habitat.

  10. JOBS!! • Table 1- “Scratch-boarders” (select one person to pass out scratchboards to each table) • Table 2- “Tool Crew” (one bin per table. Pass out and collect at the end) • Table 3- “Wipe outs” (wipe down tables at the end) • Table 4- “Book Keepers” (pass out books/ collect books)
