  5. Even your back garden is a habitat! Think about your back garden at home. What animals and plants live in this habitat?

  6. A beach has lots of different marine habitats where living things live. Can you think of any habitats?

  10. Why do these plants and animals live in the rock pool habitat? An animal lives where it can find food, water and shelter. The rock pool habitat provides these plants and animals with food and shelter. How does a rock pool provide shelter for these plants and animals? Where do you think these living things get their food from? What do you think they eat?

Most plants and animals are adapted to survive in a particular habitat. • They have developed special features to suit the demands of their environment. • For example a starfish is adapted to living in the rock pool environment because it has hundreds of tiny suckers on the underside of each arm to help it to hold on to the rock surface in stormy seas!

  12. Today we have learnt that: • A habitat is a place where animals and plants live. • Habitats provide living things with food, water, and shelter. • There are many types of habitat. • Living things are often adapted to living in their particular habitat.
