  5. PRINCIPLES REGULATING THE EDUCATION SYSTEM The Turkish education system is organized on the basis of; - Constitution of the Turkish Republic - Laws Regulating Education and Instruction - Government Programs- Development Plans- National Education Councils

  6. STRATEGIES AND POLICIES Policies: • developing an up to date curriculum and instruction, • improving teacher training and quality of teachers, • building information and communication technology infra-structure. • improving physical capacity and facilities and access to education

  7. General Structure of Turkish National Education System Turkish National Education System has two main parts: • Formal Education • Non-formal Education

  8. Formal Education Formal educationis regular education provided in formal schools. In Turkish National Education System, formal education is formed of four parts as: • Pre-School • Primary • Secondary • Higher Education

  9. Non-formal Education-1 It involves all educational and training activities organized for the individuals that have never participated in formal education system or left school in one of the levels of this system.

  10. Non-formal Education-2 In our country Non-formal education is realized by; • Public Training • Apprenticeship Education • Distance Education

  11. PRE-PRIMARY EDUCATION • " Nurseries" Kindergarten" Nurseries within private Turkish, Foreign, Minority, International schools

  12. Pre-School Education Non-compulsory programs for children from birth to the age of 66 months Three sub-categories: 1. Day nurseries (0-36 months) 2. Kindergartens (37-66 months) 3. Pre-school classes (48-66 months)

  13. Pre-School Education (PSE) MONE provides pre-school education for children from the age of 36 to 66 months in kindergartens and pre-school classes. Private nurseries, day care centers, and kindergartens provide care and education for 0-66 age group.

Primary & Secondary Education Compulsory Education: Age of Entry :5.5Age of Exit: 18 Structure of School System :Primary&Secondary Type of School :Primary & Secondary Education School Length of program in years :12 Diploma Awarded:Basic & Secondary Education Diploma Diploma Awarded : High School

Primary Education The primary education program includes: Turkish language and literature, Mathematics, Social Studies, Science, Civics and Human rights, the History of the Turkish Republic and Atatürk's reforms, a foreign language (English, French or German), individual and group activities, religious culture and ethics, art/handcraft, music, physical education, traffic safety and first aid, career guidance, and elective courses.

  16. Primary Education MONE and private firms preparesstudents' textbooks,  teacher's books, worksheets, and teaching aids. The approval of MONE is required for all materials. Teachers at this level are trained at university faculties of education and complete at least one year of teachingonprovisional/probationary status prior to appointment as regular teachers
