  3. NNPHI’s MISSION: To promote multi-sector activities resulting in measurable improvements of public health structures, systems and outcomes.

  4. NNPHI’s Goals Continue to be: • Promote multi-sector systems approach • Enhance the capacity of PHIs to address the population based health agenda • Foster and facilitate ongoing communication among PHIs • Develop collaborative projects among PHIs • Obtain sources of funding for multi-state projects and assist in project management • Encourage the growth and stability of existing PHIs • Foster the development and growth of new PHIs • Create a learning community among PHIs

NNPHI Official Business • Jeffrey Lake has been Chair of NNPHI’s Executive Committee for past year • He will speak next regarding accomplishments of NNPHI in the past year • At end of meeting, Joseph Hafey (who has been Chair-Elect) will transition into the position of Chair of NNPHI Executive Committee • Regular members, please review your folder and return voting ballot by end of meeting to Chris Kinabrew

Highlights of past year: • Finalized Strategic plan • “Assets for Health Improvement – Members of the NNPHI” published and distributed among members and partner organizations • Launched monthly e-mail newsletter (February 2003) • Presentation and booth at APHA 2002 • Participated in National Public Health Performance Standards Group and collaborated with CDC on Performance Standards Training • Applied to join the Council on Linkages between Academia and Public Health Practice

Highlights of past year (cont.) • Facilitated three popular educational teleconferences covering: • “Top Ten Mistakes of Public Health Institutes” • “Resource Development for Public Health Institutes” and • “Authorizing Legislation for Public Health Institutes” • Renewed CDC Cooperative Agreement • Developed and secured funding from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation for Fostering Emerging Institutes Project • In collaboration with the Michigan Public Health Institute, significantly increased functionality of NNPHI Website • New member – Texas Institute for Health Policy Research • Many teleconferences with emerging institutes
