  2. Communication Skills • Communication is the ability to communicate orally, and in writing, with family, acquaintances, friends, and even strangers. • Successful people have the ability to talk to anyone, anywhere, about anything, anytime.

  5. The Art of Conversation • All contacts and relationships start with an initial conversation. This conversation sets the tone for the development of the relationship. • Conversation develops relationships, and people make people successful. • Handout 5

  6. The Basics • If you want to be successful, meet as many people as you can and develop contacts everywhere. • Start with a conversation • When you ask a question, listen to the answer and get an idea for your next question based on the answer.

  7. Basics Cont. • The key is to keep your questions simple and always listen to what the other person is saying. • What is your name? • How are you? • Where are you from? • How long have you lived here? • Where do you work? • What do you do? • Do you like your job? • What are your hobbies?

  8. Questions to discover a Person’s likes • When you find a subject of interest to a person, focus the next five questions on that subject, for ex. • What is your favorite place of travel? • When did you go there last? • Who did you travel with? • How long were you there? • Why is it your favorite place?
