  1. Immune System By Josh and Jack

  2. Summary • The immune System fights against bacteria and other diseases of the body like viruses and other microbes. The immune system is made up of the skin, the... the white blood cells. They are like microscopic policeman that fight crime. White blood cells travel through blood and tissue.

  3. The systems elements Parts of the immune system Skin Nose Eyes Ears Stomach acid Lymph system WBC’s – 4 types Neutrophils Lymphocytes Macrophages Monocytes

  4. How it works • Your bodies defences • Skin: is a germ proof barrier and is the first line of defence. • Nose: hairs stop dirt particles in the air. • Ear: wax stops germs entering your ears. • Eyelids: stop germs entering your eyes through the air. • Tears: wash you eyes clean from dirt and germs. • Stomach: acid kills germs in food that you eat. • Tonsils: kills germs that have entered your throat. • White blood cells (WBC): kill germs that have entered your body. • Spleen: contains WBC’s to fight infection. • How it responds to a cut • If the skin is broken by a knife or anything. Microbes will enter the cut. The immune system is like a layer of a defence to the invasion from the microbes. There is an alarm sent out. So white blood cells go to the cut and eat the bacteria. While platelets make the blood thicker to stop the bleeding and heal the cut. Pus that is on the wound is actually dead microbes and dead white blood cells.

  5. Diseases, Disorders and Illnesses • Immunodeficiency happens when the immune system is not at full strength as to what it is usually is. Which can turn out to be life-threatening infections.

  6. Importance

  7. Types of cells in the Immune System. • White Blood Cells • There are many types of white blood cells. lymphocyte are one of them and there are two type of there as well B and T. lymphocyte make up 20 out of 40 persent of the total number of white blood cells.
