  2. We learned about action parts of a sentence. The action part of a sentence is made of the words that tell what a person or thing does.

  3. Sam naps on Mom’s lap. What does Sam do? “Naps on Mom’s lap” is the action part of the sentence.

  4. A verb is a word that shows action.

  5. An action word or verb is something you can do.

  6. run jump walk step Here are some verbs. You should be able to do these things. dance climb sing nap look kick sit swim

  7. Sam naps on Mom’s lap. What is the action word? naps

  8. The pigs sit in mud. What is the action word? sit

  9. Now for something new!

  10. If the action is being done by one person, the verb will need to end with the letter s.

  11. rides Bob _____ his bike. ride rides

  12. jumps Sam _____ up. jump jumps

  13. swims Pam _____ in the water. swim swims

  14. sleeps Ruby ____ in her bed. sleep sleeps

  15. Learning that sometimes a verb needs to end with s will help you become a super writer!
