  2. Alcohol • 670 licensed premises • 445 hotels (114), restaurants, bars • 22% increase in main types of licensed premises between 2002-2006 (100+) • 92 licensed premises for every 10,000 residents • Darebin 18 • Moreland 24 • Borandarah 25 • Port Phillip 74

Alcohol • Research conducted by the NSW Bureau of Crime & Research (2006) • Liquor outlet density above 22 licensed premises per 10,000 face the highest crime related problems • Correlation between accessibility of liquor outlets and anti-social behaviour and public order offences (assaults, robberies, damage)

Alcohol • Yarra has significantly higher rates of alcohol related assaults and hospital admissions compared across Victoria • Large proportion of reported assaults involve either the victim or offender or both are intoxicated • 2003-04 approx 160 alcohol related assaults • 2008-09 approx 180 alcohol related assaults

Alcohol Alcohol and accidents • Approximately 1 in every 60-70 drivers at non booze bus interceptions test positive to exceeding the prescribed limit • Approximately 1 in every 200-300 drivers tested positive in 2007 for illicit drugs • 10% of pedestrian collisions involve alcohol (22 per month)

  9. Drugs • ICE is now becoming more obvious and being detected regularly • Increasing in drug of choice • 2009 ounce of ICE $14,000 vs Heroin $7,000

  10. Drugs Deaths • Intravenous use of heroin 2008 – 108 deaths across Victoria • January 2009 – March 2009 – 4 deaths

  11. Drugs Increased Enforcement • 2008-09 Trafficking Drugs • Approximately 51% increase in offences from 2007-08 • 2008-09 Possessing Drugs • Approximately 14% increase in offences from 2007/08

Drugs Increased Enforcement - Impact 2008-09 • 13% reduction in robberies • 13% reduction in property damage • 20% reduction in residential burglary • 34% reduction in burglary (other) • 10% reduction in theft from motor car • 19% reduction in theft of motor car Approximately 11% reduction in total crime
