  1. Lesson 4 February 3rd , 2011 The cell

  2. Before we start the note, write down three things you know about cells. The Cell

  3. Scientists used the microscope to discover that all living things are made up of cells! There are two main types of cells. • Plant Cells • Animal cells

  4. Some living things are only made up of one cell. Others are made up of trillions of cells. An Amoeba is one cell

  5. A human is made of many cells

  6. Just like your body is made up of organs such as the heart and stomach, a cell is made up of structures called organelles. Your organs work to keep you alive; organelles work to keep a cell alive.

  7. After we have finished talking about the organelles, choose a colour and fill in the box beside the organelle, then use the same colour to colour the organelle. Save Green for the chloroplast. Plant cells

  8. Copy the terms and definitions into the blank table below the picture of the cell

  9. Supports and protects the cell. Only plant cells have cell walls. Cell Wall

  10. Controls what goes in and out of the cell Cell Membrane

  11. Controls all the activities of the cell Nucleus

  12. Makes food for the plant. Chloroplasts are green and are found only in plant cells. Chloroplast

  13. Produces energy in the cell Mitochondrion

  14. Stores food, water, and waste in the cell Vacuole

  15. Transports food, water, and waste around the cell Endoplasmic Reticulum (ER)

  16. A jelly like substance that holds all the organelles in place. Cytoplasm

  17. What organelle makes a plant green? K (1) What organelle protects a cell? K (1) Imagine that you are a cell in a blade of grass. Name three organelles that help to keep you alive. Describe the Job each one does. A (3) Questions:

  18. Viewing plant cells lab
