  3. Boy Scout Handbook Use handbook to track advancement • Requirements and sign-off at back of book • Scout rank is only sign-off in front of book • Sign-offs • Who can sign-off? • Older “trained” Scouts • Adults • Where? • Anywhere ! • Meetings • Outings • Etc.

  4. Requirements Work on skills in different places • Home • Scout handbook, computer, etc. • Meetings • Outings • Summer Camp • School • With friends, or on your own

Completion of Requirements What to do • Complete and get sign-off on all requirements, except: • Scout Spirit • Scoutmaster Conference (SMC) • Board of Review (BOR) • Schedule SMC • Scoutmaster will sign-off: • Scout Spirit (no one else is allowed to sign-off) • Scoutmaster Conference • Schedule BOR • All ranks except Scout require a BOR • Schedule only after SMC is completed

Contact Scoutmaster When requirements are completed • Contact Scoutmaster for appointment for SMC • Scout must contact Scoutmaster (not the parent) • Appointments given • Before or after troop meetings • Occasionally during troop meetings • May meet elsewhere on a different day (subject to availability and need) • Adult needs to be present • BSA (Youth Protection) requirement • More of an issue before the meeting (when no one else is present) • Scoutmaster Conference • Scout in full uniform – including book, sash, etc. • Questions asked about skills, experiences, interests, etc. • Sign-off of Scout Spirit and SMC

Board of Review Higher ranks typically require longer BORs After SMC is completed • Contact Advancement Chair for appointment • Scout must contact Advancement Chair (not the parent) • Board of Review • Conducted by Troop for for all ranks, except: • Scout: Only requires SMC • Eagle: Requires special BOR by the District • Consists of 3-6 adults (usually only 3) • Scout in full uniform • Questions asked about skills, experiences, interests, etc. • Sign-off of BOR

  8. After Board of Review After BOR is completed • Troop will submit application for rank • Rank is usually awarded at Court of Honor • Sometimes given before (as soon as possible after earned)

Eagle Scout Troop 777 has a demonstrated history of Eagle Scouts! • Highest Rank in Boy Scouts • Requirements • Be active in the troop • Demonstrate Scout Spirit • 21 merit badges – 12 of which are required • Provide leadership in the Troop • Complete Eagle Scout Service Project • Scoutmaster conference • Board of review • May earn Palms, based on participation and service
