    2. The Cavalier Poets Were loyal to Charles I (1625–49) Use of direct and colloquial language expressive of a highly individual personality, and their enjoyment of the casual, the amateur, the affectionate poem written by the way. They distrust the over-earnest, the too intense.

    3. They treat life and poetic convention cavalierly. Life is far too enjoyable for it to be spent sweating over verses in a study. The Cavalier Poets
