  5. New Stream of Study • BSc (Hons) in Computer Science • Major Required & Major Elective Courses • Streams of Study • Digital Media Communications Technology • Web Intelligence Technology • Health Information Technology • BSc (Hons) in Computing Studies (Info Sys) • Major Required & Major Elective Courses

  6. Aims & Objectives • A series of courses are jointly designed by colleagues from HKBU and collaborators and advisors from the Hospital Authority. • The objectives of this stream of study are as follows: • The introduction of medical terminology, hospital workflow and technical knowledge on utilizing information technology in the sector of Healthcare. • To close the gap between our graduates and HIT practitioners and to have the student better prepared for building their careers in Health Information Technology • To gain technical knowledge specifically related to the development of Health Information Technology. For example, Medical image processing and its applications, Data mining and data warehouse, Clinical Decision support and information systems …etc. • To have an earlier engagement and hands-on experience on system design and software development of medical information systems.

  7. Courses for Health Information Technology • Health Information Technology • Clinical Decision Support and Information Systems • Medical Image Processing and Applications • Data Mining and Knowledge Discovery

  8. Implementation Details • Students who take this stream of study must pass All FOUR courses under the Health Information Technology Stream in order to fulfill their graduation requirement; • Students who take this stream of study must have their final year project related to Health Information Technology;

  9. Implementation Details • Courses under the Health IT stream are also open to CS students who are not taking the stream for graduation, as well as to IS students for fulfilling the major elective requirement for graduation; • Students fulfilling the Health Information Technology stream requirement will have it listed as a remark in their Official Transcript; (Waiting for AR’s response) • Courses will be offered by the 1st Semester of 2009/2010.

  10. Collaboration & Commitment with BU & HA • Course Consultants for the Courses for Health Information Technology Stream – In view of introducing sets of medical terminology and hospital workflow to our students, we very much rely on the experts from HA to help constructing, monitoring, and fine tuning our technical programme (i.e. the stream of study) to fit the demand of the local HIT market. • Project Consultants – It is a requirement that students who choose to study this stream have to do their Final Year Projects in areas of HIT. Although students will still be supervised by HKBU staff, we will need experts from HA to act as project consultants or co-supervisors in order to provide advice and ideas to do investigations, pilot projects, and in building sub-systems related to Health Information Technology.

  11. Collaboration & Commitment with BU & HA • HA will provide Internship and Placement for potential students who would like to choose the HIT Stream. These will provide amble opportunity to get hands on experience and engage in real-world development through summer internship and one-year placement programme. • Possible Job alignment after graduation – Through internship and placement programme, students who take this stream of study will be better prepared to start their career in HIT. Thus, upon graduation, our graduates should align to the development of HIT better than the other IT related programme. We look for the possibility of aligning a number of trainee positions from HA each year such that we can establish a constant stream of graduates getting into the HIT community.

  12. Collaboration & Commitment with BU & HA • Guest Lecturers and Speakers for HIT short courses and seminars – We certainly need experts from HA to enrich our programme as guest lecturers for short courses or distinguished speakers for professional seminars. Extra Notes: • Indication to choose this stream of study (End of March) • Formal Application & Selection Process (April) • Final Year Project Alignment (End of April) Contact Person: Prof. Joseph Ng - jng@comp.hkbu.edu.hk
