  2. Married, with five children: two boys and three girls. Born on April 28, 1937, in Tikrit Joined the Arab Ba'th Socialist Party ( A.B.S.P.) in 1956. Arrested for six months over the years 1958-1959 for his political activities against the regime Sentenced to death in absentia on February 25, 1960 Led his country in confrontation the aggression launched by 33 countries led by US. which waged war against Iraq, the Iraqis' confrontation of which is called by Arabs and Iraqis as the Battle of Battles

He attended Catholic schools before graduating from the University of Havana with a degree in law. was a member of the OrtodoxParty, a social-democrat party He went into exile in Mexico, where he trained and assembled the 26th of July Movement. The United States Government tried various schemes to assassinate him. The destruction of the Soviet Union has left him in a poor economic state and he is less of an international figure, though he remains President of Cuba.
