  1. Vision Statement for Research C-MORE will be a transdisciplinary, global research information center for comprehensive, integrative understanding of the living ocean, with a special emphasis on microbial plankton diversity and dynamics. The connectivity between different hierarchical levels of biological complexity (including gene and organism diversity, physiological function and regulation, and community structure and function), and biogeochemical and physical dynamics, will be measured and modeled. These data, and the predictive, biologically-informed ecosystem models they enable, will be essential in predicting the effects of global change in the marine environment, and managing marine biomes in the face of ongoing global environmental perturbations.

  2. Research Themes Microbial biodiversity Metabolism and C-N-P-energy flow Remote and continuous sensing and links to climate variability Ecosystem modeling, simulation and prediction For more info: http://cmore.soest.hawaii.edu

  3. Knowledge Transfer Engage in two-way knowledge transfer that benefits the Center, government and policy makers, industry, the public, and the academic community. • Objectives • Disseminate scientific and technical knowledge to peers through publications and presentations. • Enhance public awareness of marine microbial oceanography and its importance, including programs to educate policymakers. • Promote economic development through commercialization and entrepreneurial use of C-MORE products such as biotechnology and remote sensing tools and technologies.

  4. Mission Statement For Education Educate and train a diverse population of educators and students in microbial oceanography.

  5. { Education Objectives Professional development opportunities Develop/update instructional resources, and disseminate Recruit and retain undergraduate and graduate students Develop and strengthen partnerships with existing programs

  6. Diversity Statement C-MORE will become a leader in increasing diversity among scientists, technical workforce, and educators engaged in the study, utilization, and education development focused on marine microbes, and the ecosystems that they inhabit.

  7. Diversity Objectives Recruit and mentor undergraduate and graduate students from a diverse student population. Provide research opportunities for underrepresented students at Center institutions. Provide financial resources for students from underrepresented groups to pursue graduate education related to Center programs at Center institutions. Develop diversity throughout the Center’s staff, scientists, managers, administrators, and advisory board members. Provide opportunities for interaction among Center staff, scientists, teachers and underrepresented students and communities. Promote diversity in all Center teacher education, high school enrichment and outreach programs
