  2. How to design and write effective job advertisements • The aim of the job advert is to attract interest, communicate quickly and clearly the essential points, and to provide a clear response process and mechanism.

  3. Design should concentrate on clarity or text, layout, and on conveying a professional image. Branding should be present but not overbearing, and must not dominate the job advert itself.

  4. The information must be communicated effectively one way or another to the target audience.

  5. Job advert format Job adverts and recruitment processes should follow the classical AIDA format: • Attention - first attract attention (from appropriate job-seekers) • Interest - attract relevant interest (by the ideal candidates) • Desire - create desire (to pursue what looks like a great opportunity) • Action - provide a clear instruction for the next action.

  6. What should be included and not included in an advert. • In groups create a table of points that you believe should be added and those that should not be added in an job advert.

  7. Advert Review • In the same groups review one of the adverts on the following slides, identify good and bad points about and decide on which is the most appealing, reason your answer.

  8. Design your own job advert Choose from the following Jobs: • Animal Keeper at the local zoo(Primates Section) • Veterinary Nurse in a country practice • Animal Care Technician at the local college • Wildlife Officer at the wildlife trust Research the job you have chosen, gathering as much information as you feel should be on the job advert. Design your own job advert using one of the Microsoft office packages (Word, PowerPoint, Publisher)
