  2. What makes a good story? Connection with listener Plot – conflict, choice, outcome Characters – good guys, bad guys Moral – What’s the point? What are the values at the heart of the story? Show don’t tell – use vivid images, specific examples, paint a picture!

  3. People are born story-tellers.

  4. Stories are sticky.

  5. Stories are viral.

  6. Stories deal with the things that matter most – values and morality.

  7. Stories create new understanding FRAMES are the way we make sense of the world and process new information. Frames are constructed out of our values & life experiences. FACTS that don’t fit our dominant frame are easily discarded. PERSONAL STORIES can’t be dismissed as easily. They open the opportunity for new understanding.

  8. STORIES CAN ACTIVATE NEW FRAMES Most of us have a variety of conflicting frames. Some are stronger than others. Words & images activate the frames in our head. STORIES that connect with a person’s values can activate new frames and create new understanding. Repetition makes frames stronger.

  9. Stories empower.

  10. Stories connect.

  11. Stories inspire hope – and action.
