  2. Habitat • Native to India, Pakistan, SriLanka, and Nepal • Wide range of habitat • River valleys, woodlands, forests, grasslands, swamps, marshes, and rocky foothills • Primarily lives in tropical and subtropical regions

  3. Characteristics • Average adult is about 12 feet and 70-120 lbs • Lifespan is 20-30 years • Their eyes are similar to cat eyes • The head has diamond shaped markings • Predator of small animals • Diet consists of predominately mammals and birds in the wild • Does not seem to be a group or pack animal

  4. Reproduction • Age of reproduction is 3 • The male will wrap himself around the female to mate • A female may lay up to 100 eggs in a clutch • 20-60 is more in common • Mothers coil around the eggs to create protection and an environment that is warmer than her own

  5. More than the average snake • Skillful at climbing and moving through trees and swimming • Hungry pythons will ambush their prey • It can swallow a calf of dozens of kilograms in weight • Docile creatures, even in the wild

  6. Close to the End • Habitat destruction • Hunting for skins • Pythons are the most popular skins used in handbags and shoes • This is because of their size, beautiful markings, and strength. 

  7. The effort • Listed as Endangered as of June 14, 1976 • All pythons are listed as Vulnerable in the IUCN • The Woodland Park Zoo is working and raising efforts to conserve this species
