  3. The Crust • NE/C OR and W ID: • Paleozoic-Mesozoic oceanic volcanic arcs • Accretionary complexes • Basinal successions • Similar terranes in Klamaths • Crust 30-42 km thick, thickening eastward

  4. Regional Volcanism • Voluminous Cenozoic volcanism: • Ignimbrite sweep • Flood basalts • Bimodal (modern) • Highest bimodal volumes deposited: • High Lava Plains • Snake River Plain

  5. Regional Volcanism • Two migrating tracks: • NE along Snake River Plain toward Yellowstone • WNW along High Lava Plains (ends at Newberry) • Indicated link between High Lava Plains and Cascades volcanism: • Increased volcanic output • Isotopic similarities • Merging structures
