Creative Industries and growth Creative Industries identified as having the potential to drive significant growth in the UK: currently account for 5.6% of UK GVA share of the total UK GVA is projected to grow to 12.6% in 2016, contributing £133bn to the UK economy (evidence by NESTA & PWC). exports third only to advanced manufacturing and finance UK’s creative sector is proportionately the largest in Europe identified as one of four industries with the potential to drive economic recovery and future growth culture, media and sports occupations identified as amongst those likely to experience fastest employment growth between now and 2017
Creative Industries (CIs) profile 1.3mpeople working in the CIs in the UK a further 1m employed in creative occupations in other sectors an estimated 182,100 businesses, with an additional 0.5m sole traders or freelancers. micro-enterprises dominate the company base – 84% of companies in the CIs have fewer than 10 employees 32% of UK creative industry professionals are freelancers or self-employed, rising to 90% in some sub-sectors, compared to 14% across all other sectors
Creative Industries Council and Skills Group Creative Industries Council (CIC) to provide a forum for the CIs and Government to engage in a joined up way and instigate industry led approaches to boosting the growth and competitiveness with Government facilitating and removing barriers where appropriate. CIC has prioritised the importance of Talent and Skills as a key factor in the growth equation and Skillset has been tasked to lead this work with a core group. We focused on cross cutting recommendations bringing benefit to all of the Creative Industries CIC Skillset Skills Group builds on existing sector skills strategies and work
