  2. Agricultural Revolution- recap • Starting around 8000BCE, various places through out the world, people began to settle and farm/domesticate animals • The ability to manage the environment through farming was most likely discovered through trial and error • The decision to settle and farm had tremendous impact on the world! • It changed the political, social, economic and technological aspects of life.

  3. What were the changes? • You will be given a scenario that should mimic the issue that many hunters and gatherers faced as they evolved into agriculturalists. • In your group, discuss the projected questions, and write what you came up with on your worksheet • Class discussion will follow.

  4. Scenario • You and a group of 50 people or so have been transported to a new planet. This planter appears to be conducive to farming and is similar to EARTH. • Your goals are to • 1) Not only do you want to survive, but you want your groups of people to grow and prosper • You want life to be enjoyable- what this means to you depends on the opinions of your group • Generally, this plays out in a number of ways for humans • Lack of chaos- want order • Comfortable- this means ensure food, resources are adequate as well as physical and emotional comfort

  5. Goals: 1. Grow and Prosper2. Physical and Emotional Comfort • Leadership: Who will lead you? How will you make this decision? How will you ensure people will listen and follow this leader? • Laws/Maintaining Order: Will you develop strict laws? • Protection: Do you need protection? (There are other groups of people living some distance away)Who will protect you? How will you ensure safety and order?

  6. Goals: 1. Grow and Prosper2. Physical and Emotional Comfort • Food Supply/ other Supplies: • How are you going to ensure that your society has adequate supplies? • How did you mobilize the population to ensure productivity? • What are people going to do during the day? • Are these jobs going to be equal? • What role will women play in society- keep in mind your main goal is to prosper!

  7. Goals: 1. Grow and Prosper2. Physical and Emotional Comfort One of your goals is to ensure emotional and physical comfort. • How will you ensure that society as a whole has enjoyable aspects in their life?

  8. Goals: 1. Grow and Prosper2. Physical and Emotional Comfort • Although your territory is conducive to farming, you do not have all the necessary resources that you will need to prosper and grow. How do you solve this problem? You do know that there are other “people” some distance away. • Right now you are located in an area that has fertile land- however, you can move your group to a more suitable location. Where would be the best location for your people to survive and prosper?

  9. Class Discussion • How did groups solve the issue of leadership, laws and protection? (POLITICAL QUESTION) • How did groups solve the issue of ensuring food supply? How did you mobilize the population to ensure productivity? (ECONOMIC Q) • What did you decide in regards to women’s status and equitable treatment of people? (SOCIAL Q) • How did you ensure that life will be pleasing to people? (CULTURAL Q) • How did you ensure resources? (ENVIRONMENT Q) • How did you ensure protection? (ENVIRONMENT)
