  5. Best guess: • 25 women, 25 men • No person younger than 18 • 10 people were African-American, not sure about Hispanics, and rest of them were whites • The average age seemed to be 40 • No disables Demography:(almost 50 people)

Middle age and older adults: Reading, searching Had both PC and Mac laptops Older ones had dated laptops Someone tried to take a photo with his smartphone from a book cover Younger adults: • Studying, reading and writing • Strongly Mac users • Had iPhones, iPods or used their laptops to listen to music Observation

  9. Introduction • This observation was conducted in the commons, specifically the section between the coffee shop and the tables across from SalsaRitas • The people observed were seen with many different devices • The most popular devices included iPhones, iPad’s , and multibrand laptops

  10. Applications of interest • Facebook • MyUMBC • Gmail • Google • Various search engines

Patterns? • Facebook appeared to be the most popular application among the iPhone users • Multi-tasking between using the iPhone and another mobile device such as an iPad or laptop was very common • Although mobile platforms are available for myumbc, gmail, and google- it seems that there was a marked preference for using these applications on larger platforms
