Who are your heroes? • “Hatred paralyzes life; love releases it. • Hatred confuses life; love harmonizes it. • Hatred darkens life; love illuminates it.” • Civil rights leader • Baptist Pastor • -Pacifist • Lead the 1963 March on Washington where he gave his famous “I have a Dream” speech • Assassinated by James Earl Ray in 1968 Martin Luther King Jr. Born 1929 Died 1968

Let us begin.” • Started off with no money or supplies in the streets of India trying to help the sick and poor • Founded The Missionaries of Charity which grew to helping people in over 100 countries • Received the Nobel Peace prize in 1979 for her humanitarianism Mother Teresa b.1910 d.1997

Who are your heroes? • “Parents can only give good advice or put them on the right paths, but the final forming of a person's character lies in their own hands.” • Wrote a diary of her time during the Holocaust. • Her writings were very inspiring • Her diary lives past her tragic death as a reminder of humanity Anne Frank b. 1929 d.1945

  6. Who are your heroes? • Defining a personal hero is a bit like allowing our inner thoughts to be published. • Through our choice of heroes, we speak volumes about ourselves. We reveal our individual values and comment on those we perceive to be lacking in the world around us. • Our heroes represent the best of ourselves, yet being human and therefore flawed, they also allow us to accept our limitations. • The rest of the week will be spent in the Library researching your hero. If you do not find one by Friday, you will have the rest of the weekend to find one.
