  2. What is AQIP? • The Academic Quality Improvement Program is a process for demonstrating a college’s commitment to quality • It is the method we use to be an accredited institution through the Higher Learning Commission • AQIP is future-oriented and focused on improvement • Uses action projects

  3. The AQIP Process • Initial self-assessment and application • We participate in Strategy Forums and prepare a Systems Portfolio that is continually updated • We just completed our first Systems Portfolio in June • We received our first Systems Appraisal in October • Every year we complete Annual Updates on our action projects and maintain our Systems Portfolio • Every 7 years we receive Reaffirmation of Accreditation

  4. Systems Portfolio and Systems Appraisal • The Systems Portfolio is a document that tells the story of BSC by answering questions asked by the Higher Learning Commission • The Systems Appraisal is a report prepared by a team of reviewers who read our Systems Portfolio and note strengths and weaknesses • The Systems Appraisal helps us to focus on areas needing improvement

  5. Systems Appraisal Components • Executive Summary, pp. 1-8 • Strategic and Accreditation Issues, pp. 8-9 • Characteristics of BSC, pp. 11-14 • Strengths and opportunities of the nine AQIP categories, pp. 14-61

  6. What did we learn from the Systems Appraisal? • Met the five criteria of the Higher Learning Commission • More strengths than opportunities for improvement • We still have room for improvement all categories • Four strategic issues offer broad challenges, p. 9 • Feedback loops • Evaluation of placement tests and learning objectives • Action Projects as a part of strategic planning • Campus culture change

  7. Thank You! • Your valuable comments will help improve BSC for • Our students • Our community • Our state • Ourselves
