  2. Act III Scene i • Unassailable – not open to attack; invulnerable It is not a good idea to attack a fort that is unassailable. 2. Confounded – confused; overwhelmed Some people are confounded by Shakespeare’s use of language.

  3. Act III Scene i 3. Prostrate– lying face down; prone If someone displeased Queen Elizabeth, he would often prostrate himself before her and beg for forgiveness. 4. Appease – to sooth; to settle down I appeased the screaming baby with a bottle.

  4. Act III Scene ii 4. Vanquished – beaten; defeated The British were vanquished by the American rebels during the Revolutionary War.
