  4. What is the purpose of these last two days of content? We have just experienced two momentous events in European History: the French and Industrial Revolutions. They create a completely new era in society. These last two days we will study new ideas brought about by these events (IMPACTS) that will lead us to new events in January (CAUSES)

  5. ISMS – another word for “a set of ideas” WHY NOW? Isms are born of the French Revolution -people realize that their beliefs can result in change …and the Industrial Revolution: opinions over forms of government break down along class lines

WHY SO MANY REVOLUTIONS? • French Revolution set precedent • For many regions, being conquered by Napoleon reminded them they don’t like to be conquered (nationalism) and Napoleon’s relatively liberal policies will awaken a desire for individual rights (liberalism) • Congress of Vienna (as we will learn) will redraw and recreate boundaries and some territories will not be satisfied.
