However,wealsosubscribelargedocumentbundles (bothtollaccessjournalsand e-bookbundles & differentkinds of databases) • Most of theacquisitionmoney goes to tollaccessjournals & journalbundles(Elsevier’sFreedomCollection, etc.) • Universitylibrariesare operating in twodifferentdocumentuniverses(digital and printed) and willdoso in theforeseeablefuture

Universitylibrariesand Open Access • Our dilemma: fundingcuts & risingsubscriptionprices (5-7 % yearly) • globalscientificpublishing is a lucrative business • Universitylibrarieshavebeenactive in promoting OA for a long time • scholarlycommunityshouldtakemoreactiverole in scientific publishing

Whoshouldpaythebills? • One mightconsiderhumanscientificpublishers & universitylibraries as traditional and conservativeactors • Nowadayssome of themostexiting ”flipover” innovationscomefromhumansciences & universitylibraries (e.g., Knowledge Unlatched, Aleksandria Library Concortium, Stockholm UP, Tampere UP, …) • Finnishlibraries, publishers and researchfundersshouldco-operatenationally and internationally to findnewkinds of ”flipover” business models and practices • Universitylibrarieswouldlikebook-publishing to flourish (also) in Finnishand Swedish
